Why can't I continue after reading external link on my phone or tablet?

To make sure your learning experience better, we'd like to address a common concern that we've noticed with some of our mobile users. Specifically, the issue of progress time pausing when visiting external links.

As you navigate through our courses, there might be moments where you're encouraged to visit external links for additional information or context. These could be articles, research papers, or other resources that supplement the course content. However, if you're participating form a mobile device, you might have noticed that your progress time seems to pause if you open an external link in a new tap or leave the web browser app.

This happens because, on many mobile devices, web pages often stop running when they're moved to the background – this is a standard feature designed to save your device's battery life and processing power. As a result, our site might not be able to track your progress while you're exploring an external link.

So, how can you avoid this?

One way is to make sure that you return to the course tab after you finish reading the external resource. This should allow the progress timer to resume. However, we understand that this might not always be convenient or feasible, especially if you want to spend more time exploring the additional material.

A more reliable solution is to use a desktop or laptop computer for your learning. Unlike mobile devices, computers typically allow web pages to continue running even when they're not the active window. This means that your progress timer will keep running, even if you're browsing external links.

We understand that this might be a bit frustrating, especially if you prefer learning on-the-go. However, we hope that understanding why this happens and how to work around it will help you have a more enjoyable and convenient learning experience with us. As always, if you have any further questions or concerns, our support team is here to help make sure you are able to keep up with any deadlines.
